When you search "Dan Lok High Ticket closer review", you had plenty of video reviews by Dan's students on Youtube, and a bunch of blogs and review websites with catch phases of "Is Dan Lok's HTC program a scam or legit?"
When you try to read the content in their blogs, almost all of them would try and sell you their own product. Conclusion: THEY HAVEN'T DONE THE COURSE. How the hell can someone write a review of something that they haven't bought/done?
I know, because the next search term is "Dan Lok High Ticket Closer scam". I have to admit, I've done it. When I talked to my husband about it, that was also the 1st thing he asked. Having said that, he said that I should make the judgement to see if its for me or not.
In this post I will go through my journey as a student and a learner, my reasons for my decision, what I think about the whole experience and you can draw your own conclusions. I am happy to answer any questions you may have regarding whether the course can help you achieve your goals, because it is quite different from traditional training that I have done (uni degrees, sales training, etc).
I am not a raving fan who drank the coolaid and say that there is nothing bad about the course. I was very level headed when I made this decision - Analysed it to death before I made a decision to hand over my hard earned cash. So, there are positives on this course and negatives, some incorporating my own experience with the Dan Lok team.
So, to answer the burning question:
- No, it is not a scam. Dan had gone through many ups and downs with his business journey - which I won't repeat here, it is all on his YouTube channel. This course is specific on training people to sell high ticket items.
First up: The Dan Lok Brand
There is a say that you made it if other people copies you or try to make money off your name. If you started searching, you will see that plenty of people who tried to leverage off the HTC brand on the internet. There are people who copied Dan's methologies and tried to get their hands on his training to pass it on as if their own. If you see his videos, he got it nutted right down to the last to get you to buy in his vision by getting you to paint your own picture. So, from what I have gathered so far, he is the real deal and the difference between him and most successful people, is he shared his really bad times, how he grew out of it, made it - I really respect him for that. Most people love to wear masks to show everything is perfect. Not this guy.
What you get in the course
In a nutshell:
- Its a 7 weeks course, each week on a different topic.
- The psychology of a customer.
- Your own mental mindset. Realisation of your own views which affects how you sell things.
- Techniques - Note that the techniques they are not the majority of the course. It is a minority.
- Resources - ideas on how you can start selling high ticket. How you can approach businesses who can offer you commission only work.
What I like about the course
- Original - I have never done a course like this. It is not just powerpoint and slamming you with information that doesn't apply to you.
- Experience based - There was a lot of discussion within the course which Dan got some past students and get them to discuss their experience since HTC. I like their stories - they are from all walks of life. I distinctly recall an experience from a lady who discussed their achievements since then, and Desmond added at the end - AND SHE IS A SINGLE MUM OF 4 AND NO EXCUSES! This slapped me back to reality when I started thinking that it is too hard.
- The methodolgies can be applied instantly and in all areas of life.
- The exercises get you to think deep - but you got to be honest with yourself also.
Comments
- There isn't much I don't like about the course. It turned out to be completely different to my expectations. I expected to learn a skill, but it does turn out to be more than just learning a skill.
- Upselling. There are many moments when things are presented I thought he is upselling. For example, the Inner circle. At the end of the course, the invitation to join inner circle for extra money. It makes people feel like that they have to get a better chance of being successful, they have to spend extra money for a monthly subscription. I also understand that from Dan's point of view that if you don't put some money down you are not committed - as in you need to have skin in the game, and this is a motivator for some, but others may seen it as a money grabbing exercise. It is what it is so see this in anyway as you see fit. From my point of view, if it adds value to ME, I pay. Just remember, there is nothing on earth called getting something for nothing. You just don't know what you are giving away if something is free. Having said that, I understand that Dan is trying to build a movement, so this is the fastest way to achieve his goals. If you watch enough of his videos, you will understand why he use money as the token of seriousness over everything else and he is completely transparent about this.
The community
- When you pay for the program, you get access to the Dan Lok HTC Facebook group. Students are encouraged to share their success/failures and support each other during difficult times. Some people will put up opportunities in the group for students.
The inner circle
- The inner circle is a group that you need to pay a monthly cost to get into, there are less mindset change posts and more opportunities posts here as well as success/failure/support posts. There are training and collateral from Dan's team here. This was what I was looking for.
- Can you make it without subscribing into the inner circle? YES. And many people have.
Whats next - what happens after the course
Nothing, if you sit on your arse and do nothing. No one will be pushing you to do anything. You are responsible for your own success and failures. What I decided to do:
- Applying the skill in the role-playing environment. This will probably be most of my posts for a while, as it is DAMN Difficult to change my own mindset and the way that I have been operating for a looong time.
- Sourcing an person/company that will provide you with leads to close high ticket items. This process will take a while to land the first one.
The last question: Would I recommend it?
Yes, if you are the following:
- Not wanting fast money. If you are a money hungry type thinking "I have to get all the commission that I can score" because I want that Ferrari, even if the product is terrible for the client like some traditional sales jobs, this is not for you.
- 100% committed. This is incredibly difficult career. It is not a job. You are working for commissions only, so you stop working, you have no income. Period. There are no safety nets. Can you do this part time? Some people are, and some people incorporate the skill into what they are already doing (i.e business owners increasing their closing rates, selling more of whatever they are selling), and others who are fully new but it depends on how willing they are going to applying what they learnt from the course. My view is it is incredibly hard to do this part time if you need to make many changes.
- Not terrified of talking to people over the phone. There is a platform which allows people to practice and that really helps, but if you are so introverted to the point that you can't talk, and having panic attacks, then this is not for you.
- Coachable. By that I mean REALLY coachable, do the exercises and LEARN what was taught. Don't think that you know it all. Nobody does. We stop learning from the moment we say to ourselves, "I know". If you are stuck in your own ways, you will the the person who blame others when you fail. If that is the case, this is not for you.
What did I get out of this course?
I initially thought that I will be learning a skill. My views align with Dan's views in his videos so I thought that it isn't hard for me to be a High Ticket Closer, plus I was in sales. I was dead wrong. In order to obtain this skill and be successful in it, I have to change my view and mindset about almost everything. I have to change the way that I talk to people (imagine you are right handed and you need to change to do everything with your left hand instead). I also have to change the way that I think. Be more resourceful. (I was very resourceful when I was in my job but now realised that I was only resourceful limited to the scope of system and process boundaries.) Its literally if you need to get something done, you will need to think outside of the box and make it happen. This is the part that a traditional job won't really allow you to do.
So, I have finally made a decision to do High Ticket full time. I figured that it will probably take more effort to find another job anyway - The unknown is scary and exciting, as I have a vision for my future and I can see that High Ticket fits very well in it. A traditional job, doesn't or if it does, eats up so much of my time that I cannot do what I want effectively. There is more to life than money.
